I know of two excellent novelists who happen to have the double x: Seanan McGuire, who also does filk, writing about writing, and webcomics. The woman seems to be unstoppable. She is also fixated with all things horror, and scary urban fantasy. Her more horror books are written as Mira Grant. She rocks!
The other horror writer I must recommend (and blogger, of course) is Cherie Priest. Her horror is more “southern gothic” in feel, and is also ace.
In fact, forget the two: there’s Pamela Dean too, more in the fantasy genre. I will be back to recommend more!
Great scientists? Alison Richard, the kickarse Vice-chancellor of Cambridge University, she writes brilliant and inspirational papers, as well as being a fantastic businesswoman, leader and passionate conservationist.
